Parents, please read before registering your child for First Communion preparation:
Starting this October 2021, parents of First Communion students will be required to provide documentation that they have taken their children to Mass each and every Sunday (unless there is sickness in the household). The Catechism of the Catholic Church states: “The Sunday celebration of the Lord's Day and his Eucharist is at the heart of the Church's life… This practice of the Christian assembly dates from the beginnings of the apostolic age… The Sunday Eucharist is the foundation and confirmation of all Christian practice. For this reason the faithful are obliged to participate in the Eucharist on days of obligation, unless excused for a serious reason (for example, illness, the care of infants) or dispensed by their own pastor. Those who deliberately fail in this obligation commit a grave sin.” (2177, 2178, 2181)
Parents of First Communion students will be required to provide documentation that they have taken their children to Sunday Mass in the form of a “Sunday Mass Report,” to be completed by parents and children following each Sunday Mass and submitted to their catechists. This requirement will begin the Sunday following the parent meeting at the beginning of the school year in October and continue until the Sunday before children receive their First Communion (including during the summer months). Failure of parents to take their children to Mass each and every Sunday (unless there is sickness in the household) and to help their children to complete and submit the Sunday Mass Report to their catechists may result in their children having to repeat a year of First Communion preparation and/or a delay in their children receiving First Communion. It is our hope that this requirement will help families who currently do not go to Mass every Sunday – who essentially are non-practicing Catholics or lapsed Catholics – to become active Catholics who go to Mass every Sunday as well as practice their faith in every other part of their lives.

Estimados padres de familia, por favor lean antes de inscribir a su hijo en la preparación para la Primera Comunión:
A partir de este octubre de 2021, los padres de los estudiantes de Primera Comunión deberán proporcionar una prueba escrita de que han llevado a sus hijos a Misa todos los domingos (a menos que haya una enfermedad en el hogar). El Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica dice: “La celebración dominical del día y de la Eucaristía del Señor tiene un papel principalísimo en la vida de la Iglesia… Esta práctica de la asamblea cristiana se remonta a los comienzos de la edad apostólica… La Eucaristía del domingo fundamenta y confirma toda la práctica cristiana. Por eso los fieles están obligados a participar en la Eucaristía los días de precepto, a no ser que estén excusados por una razón seria (por ejemplo, enfermedad, el cuidado de niños pequeños) o dispensados por su pastor propio… Los que deliberadamente faltan a esta obligación cometen un pecado grave.” (2177, 2178, 2181)
Los padres de los estudiantes de Primera Comunión deberán proporcionar un reporte escrito de que han llevado a sus hijos a la Misa dominical llamado “Informe de la Misa dominical", que los padres y los niños deben completar después de cada Misa y presentarlo a sus catequistas. Este requisito comenzará el domingo siguiente a la reunión de padres al comienzo del año escolar en octubre y continuará hasta el domingo antes de que los niños reciban su Primera Comunión (incluso durante los meses de verano). El hecho de que los padres no lleven a sus hijos a Misa todos los domingos (a menos que haya una enfermedad en el hogar) y no ayuden a sus hijos a completar y enviar el Informe de la Misa dominical a sus catequistas puede resultar en que sus hijos tengan que repetir un año de preparación para la Primera Comunión y/o un retraso en que sus hijos reciban la Primera Comunión.
