Marriage

"Just as of old God encountered his people with a covenant of love and fidelity, so our Savior, the spouse of the Church, now encounters Christian spouses through the sacrament of Matrimony" (CCC 1642).

Congratulations on this step in pursuing a vocation to marriage with your significant other!

On this page, you will find more information about the sacrament of Matrimony and the process to be married at Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Marriage at OLG

We invite and encourage couples to celebrate their weddings here at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. We support couples as they prepare for Marriage, and we join them in praying to God for his help and grace as they become husband and wife and form a new family.

Please review the information below for details about the process for receiving the Sacrament of Marriage at OLG. If you have any further questions, please call the Parish Office at (562) 691-0533.

Registration, Wedding Orientation, and Documents

The first step toward receiving the sacrament of Matrimony here at OLG is to complete a "Registration for Marriage" form and submit it to the Parish Office. The form can be found at the bottom of this webpage or can be provided to you at the Parish Office.

After submitting the completed form to the Parish Office, you will be scheduled to attend a wedding orientation meeting. At this meeting, you will have the opportunity to learn more about wedding preparation and the documents needed.

Marriage Preparation

Since marriage within the Catholic Church is a sacrament, it is important that proper preparation be done on the behalf of those seeking to receive the sacrament to ensure that they have the formation necessary to accept and act on the grace that God will give through the sacrament.

In the Catholic Church, marriage preparation is a 6 month process.

Planning Your Wedding

The couple will work with the priest officiating the wedding and the Church Wedding Coordinator to plan the liturgy. Choices will be made regarding the date, time, and language of the liturgy, as well as more specific details about the liturgy.

Donation for Your Wedding

Because Our Lady of Guadalupe is a parish community, not a vendor, and because sacraments are not “for sale,” we do not speak of “charging” for a wedding celebration. With that said, since there is a lot of work that must go into a wedding celebration on the part of the parish, we ask that couples contribute to this through a donation. Typically, donations are made in the amount of $1000.

If paying this would cause financial hardship, please speak to someone at the Parish Office to discuss a solution.
