Young Adult Ministry

The Young Adult Ministry at Our Lady of Guadalupe aims to joyfully provide a holistic Catholic formation beyond confirmation where young adults continue to be lifelong learners of Christ. We see our Church as a body of Christ, with members working together to form our men and women communally, spiritually, and intellectually.

What is Human Formation?

We want to help you claim your true identity in Christ and discover the charisms that God is calling you to live out to build up the Church! It is through human formation that this is achieved and in doing so, we will become fully alive!

Human formation occurs through the personal accompaniment of the spiritual director and formation advisor as well as through participation in the life of the community. There is a strong focus on developing the capacity for leadership, self-knowledge, and forming healthy habits.

Human formation can include: retreats, sports/fitness, hosting a small group at your home, joining a discussion group or recovery group, 1-1 meetings, mentorship, spiritual direction, seeking therapy, and giving back using your time, talent, and treasures!

What is Spiritual Formation?

Jesus looked at them and said, “For human beings this is impossible, but for God all things are possible." - Matthew 19:26

We know that only through an intimate relationship with Christ and the Holy Spirit that we are able to perform our daily duties with love. St. Paul said, "If I . . . have not charity, I am nothing. Whatever my privilege, service, or even virtue, if I . . . have not charity, I gain nothing" (CCC 1826).

Spiritual formation focuses on nourishing and cultivating a personal relationship with Christ in the power of the Spirit that is manifest in generous love toward others.

Spiritual formation can include: retreats on prayer and discernment, pilgrimages, attending Mass, silent Prayer, reading scripture, regular confession, and small group discussions.

What is Intellectual Formation?

Intellectual formation aims to deepen our understanding of the faith and equip us to live it out thoughtfully and confidently. It fosters a deeper love of truth, an understanding of the faith, and the ability to articulate and live it out in the modern world. It's not just about information, but transformation through knowledge that is rooted in Christ.

Intellectual Formation can include: discussions that encourage critical thinking and respectful dialogue, study series, mentorship and speaker events, and pilgrimages.

Lectio Divina

The goal of these weekly studies is to help us as Catholic Christians grow in confidence when reading the Bible, through learning the particular rules and context of a certain book, praying, practice, and questioning.

Deacon Kevin Duthoy, JD, will join us monthly to reground us in the gift of the Bible, a book of inerrant truths and filled with many different literary devices all meant to bring us into deeper relationship with God. Lectio Divina is one method to help us converse with our Lord.
