Local parish school shuts their doors....

A number of years ago, Saint Mary’s parish school in Fullerton experienced declining enrollment and subsequent financial difficulties. The Diocese of Orange School Board at the time made a decision to combine St. Mary’s elementary school to the neighboring parish school of Saint Philip’s. This new combination school located on the grounds of Saint Philip Benizi parish was given the name of Annunciation Catholic School. For the first few years, enrollment remained strong. In more recent times - due to many outside factors such as the economy and changing demographics – Annunciation School’s enrollment has seriously declined, so that it is no longer viable in providing the high level of Catholic and Academic education that distinguishes our schools. For the families and staff of the school, this sudden announcement brings with it a time of sadness and some confusion. I ask that you keep them in your prayers as they discern the next step in the Catholic education and formation for their children.

For most of the Catholic Schools of the Diocese, keeping the doors open is an ongoing challenge and struggle as parents strive to meet their financial responsibilities in these tough economic times. Our own parochial school looks to our parish for continued financial assistance, and I want to thank you for your ongoing support of the many fund raisers that benefit our school.

If, perchance, you know of any Annunciation School family who is seeking another Catholic school for their children, invite them to visit our parish school, meet with our Principal, Mrs. Francine Kubasek, and other staff members who will assist them at this difficult time of decision making.

The future of Catholic education and the formation of our young people is the responsibility of all of us, whether we have children in our schools or not, so I am trusting and relying on each of you to do your share for the future of the school and the continuing of the Mission of Jesus here in our midst.
