Ministry of Care

Overview

The Ministry of Care at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church consists of two separate ministries. One is the Eucharistic Ministry to the Sick and Elderly, the other is the Vigil Ministry.

The Ministers of the Ministry of Care bring the Holy Eucharist to parishioners who are unable to attend the Eucharistic celebration in the church due to age or illness. Whereas the Vigil Ministers oversee a prayer service celebrated with the family and friends of a deceased member of our community prior to the funeral liturgy.

We invite you to learn more about these two ministries by reading the information provided below. If you have any questions, or feel you may be interested in joining one of these ministries, please call either (invalid contact id) or Kathryn Lenow at [phone]. Also, please contact us if you know of a parishioner who is unable to attend our Eucharistic celebrations due to illness or age, but wishes to receive communion on a weekly basis.

Eucharistic Ministry to the Sick & Elderly
Because the loaf of bread is one, we, many though we are, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf. (1 Corinthians 10:17)

The Ministers of the Ministry of Care of OLG recognize that the faithful who are ill are deprived of their rightful and accustomed place in the eucharistic community. In bringing communion to them the minister of communion represents Christ and manifests faith and charity on behalf of the whole community toward those who cannot be present at the Eucharist. For the sick the reception of communion is not only a privilege but also a sign of support and concern shown by the Christian community for its members who are ill.

Vigil Ministry
"At one time you were straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd, the Guardian of your souls." (1 Peter 2:25)

The Vigil Ministry of OLG recognizes that the Vigil of the deceased is an integral Rite celebrated by the Christian community following death. It is the gathering of the community to keep watch with the families in prayer and to find strength in Christ's presence.
